Four-year observations of T Tauri with adaptive optics

We report here on a series of adaptive optics observations of T Tauri made from Dec. 1993 to Nov. 1997. Observations show an arc-like structure extending toward north and north-west. On the south side a bright tail-like structure extends radially in the south-west direction. Both structures seem to be produced by dust scattering. Close to T Tauri, the south structure forms bright clumps near a ...

The Initial Mass Function of the Massive Star-forming Region Ngc 3603 from Near-infrared Adaptive Optics Observations

We study the initial mass function (IMF) of one of the most massive Galactic star-forming regions NGC 3603 to answer a fundamental question in current astrophysics: is the IMF universal, or does it vary? Using our very deep, high angular resolution JHKSL ′ images obtained with NAOS-CONICA at the VLT at ESO, we have successfully revealed the stellar population down to the subsolar mass range in ...

T Tauri stars microjets resolved by adaptive optics ?

Using adaptive optics techniques, we have obtained the first [O i] and [S ii] images at 0.1′′ (' 15 AU) resolution of the jets in CW Tau, DG Tau and RW Aur. In all three jets, the emission is dominated by knots and is resolved transversally down to 56 AU with similar inner jet widths of 0.2-0.25′′. The RW Aur and CW Tau jets are straight, their FWHM slowly increasing with distance with opening ...

The Coronal X-ray spectrum of the multiple weak-lined T Tauri star system HD 98800

We present high-resolution X-ray spectra of the multiple (hierarchical quadruple) weak-lined T Tauri star system HD 98800, obtained with the High Energy Transmission Gratings Spectrograph (HETGS) aboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO). In the zeroth-order CXO/HETGS X-ray image, both principle binary components of HD 98800 (A and B, separation 0.8) are detected; component A was observed to f...

A Third Star in the T Tauri System.

New speckle holographic images of the T Tauri infrared companion (T Tauri IRC; T Tauri S) reveal it to be a double system with a sky-projected separation of 0&farcs;05, corresponding to a linear distance of 7 AU. The presence of this third star may account for the relative paucity of dust surrounding the IRC.
